History of the Praise to Manjushri
On the path to enlightenment, wisdom is likened to our eyes, allowing us to see. Without the eyes of wisdom, we are blind and cannot make any progress on our journey. For this reason, the great masters of India and Tibet universally praised wisdom as indispensable to all three vehicles.
One of the swiftest and most effective ways to gather wisdom is through the practice of Manjushri, the Father of all the Buddhas. For the eyes of ordinary beings, Manjushri appears in the form of a noble bodhisattva , however he is none other than a fully-enlightened being, and the embodiment of all the buddhas’ wisdom.
There are many practices and prayers dedicated to Manjushri, however this Praise to Manjushri (Gang-lo-ma in Tibetan) is one of the most precious and powerful. The prayer was blessed by none other Manjushri himself. Although it is short and easy to recite, it is profound in meaning.
His Holiness’ noble Khon family has an especially close connection to Manjushri. Many of His Holiness’ predecessors, including his own noble father, are widely regarded to be emanations of Manjushri himself.
On June 3, 2025, His Holiness will bestow the transmission of this ancient and sacred prayer, and will explain its profound meaning.
